Ventrillo Raid Etiquette
Ventrillo Raid Etiquette
This is not directed at anyone in particular -- it's something that bears mentioning to everyone. 25 people in vent is a lot of people to manage -- we have a lot of people with a lot of experience/opinions, many of us are friends, some of us are less that friends, it can get chaotic. We really need to tighten down on the vent "chit chat" when we're pulling bosses especially. What works in 10-man casual instances doesn't relate well when we have over 2x the members in the channel. #1 LISTEN TO THE RAID LEADER -- ONLY A lot of my raiding experience I received in a hardcore horde guild, and that was with 40 people - but many things hold true. There is ONLY ONE person who should be giving us instructions during (and before) the fight. ONLY the raid leader tells us when it's okay to stop clicking cubes or whatever it ends up being, otherwise it creates too much of a chaotic situation. We've already seen this happen in the Leotheras encounter when some dips..tick shouts "burn him down!" when he's <15%. We could have wiped on Magtheridon if we had listened to whoever said we didn't need to click on the cubes anymore getting close to 0% ... if the cubes went off at 3-4%, we would have wiped. You MUST yeild to the raid leader, if you have helpful hints - send them to him in a whisper before the attempt. In this way, win or lose, success or failure -- it is a learning experience that we can grow from and do it better next time. If someone steers us sideways with a "burn him down!" -- we try again with no growth. #2 "CLEAR VENT" When we're fighting a boss -- CLEAR VENT. There is no reason to tell us "how" you died, we all know already that you are dead. IF you had a special role (cube-clicker, decurser, etc.) -- announce your death. That's it. No "oh crap I got caught jumping in the water while the spout was coming around my way, I was in the water but I wanted to adjust my camera so when it hit me I flew far awayi'malwaystalkingblahblahblahblahblah". It's a distraction to the rest of us, let us know after the battle -- clear vent for important information, K.I.S.S. "Phrikk down - need CC east island". "Veggie MC'd, kill him". But this is not a *rule* -- just be smart about it, it's more important that people hear certain things that we need to respond immediately (ie. Bravsirrobin getting graved) than to announce yourself, which we'll have to deal with but wont make/break the attempt.

Yeah, I am just as guilty of saying pointless crap over vent during encounters as anyone else. I forget that often my job is really really easy, compared to MT and healing. I will try to tell less stories during 25 man content. And if I start rambling, someone go ahead and yell at me. Because if if someone else if clogging up vent with stupid stuff, I might remember to tell you to shut it. Also, please please, don't contradict or talk over the raid leader during encounters. It confuses people, and makes it really hard for them to do their job.

Just on the thought of raid etiquette in general.I understand FA isnt a "hardcore" raiding guild, but that in my opinion makes my point that much more salient. If you know we are going to raid tuesday and thursday nights at 730 pm server time, why cant you plan ahead enough to be not only on time, but prepared as well?If you arent able to then all you do is flaunt rudeness in the face of those who are prepared. Its not like these are on the fly times and targets. The times and targets are pretty much set in stone.I understand you have real lives, and i understand that sometimes things happen. That should be the exception however and not the norm.Realize that the people that lead put an awful lot more time and energy into this than you do,so give them and other on timers a break and strive to be present and ready to go at whatever time/place is chosen, rather than logging in and asking for a summon while you make potions/repair/get gems/food etc. This is just my personal feelings and do not reflect those of the management or any FA affiliate
