So I've spent a few hours tooling around Northrend, made myself a death knight - played with the mage and warrior new training paths. I've been avoiding instancing because I typically run those with my Monday group and wanted to keep it fresh/special -- though (if) when I hit "raid level" I wouldn't mind trying out a couple of the 10-man. I don't know much about it -- I haven't consumed massive quantities of information on WotLK, I just had a good friend drop his beta key in my lap. So let me know if there's anything in particular you want to know about. Here are my first observations: # 52 points in fire -- freaking lethal. BUURRRRRRRNNNNNN. I'm doing most of my questing on mage because ... # I have no clue how to DPS as a warrior anymore, going to respec back to protection and quest the way I know how -- like a brick wall. # Questing is much as it was in BC / earlier -- collect X these, kill Y these, but there are some new twists and fun stuff I hadn't seen. Additionally, I should say chains are better than killing Worg pups, Worg youth, Worg adults, Worg masters ala Tirion Fordring (who deserves to be kicked in the face for that) -- they are disconnected and (thankfully) chain based on other things. Like "find Bob", and Bob sends you to find his buddy, who in turn sends you deep underground to find the third buddy, who wants you to recover something for him; to recover the item involves fighting in an arena down there, returning it to 3rd buddy gives you a package to take back to the main guy. So you're not heading to town in between, you're "on an adventure". It also seems that many of the quests intentionally chain to an instance. # I hope they make DK's really really tough to make. I've only tooled around for 15 minutes on the basic quests -- but they seem crazy/sexy/cool. *** NOTE : I was informed there is no NDA for the beta -- and we're encouraged to talk about it -- so please ask whatever you'd like to know ***

I know this information isn't what you're looking for ... but ... The truth is, after having spent about a week on both my warrior / mage in the starting areas of WotLK -- I've lost all passion to play further in it. Yes, it's awesome -- being able to spec 51 points in a tree makes you godly, green loot drops are great - but it will be a while before you replace your raid gear (I'm guessing 78ish). The place looks cool, the badasses are BAD ASS, and the quests are an improvement on what they learned in both release and BC. Blizzard does listen to user response, they learn from mistakes, things are better. It really boils down to that I just dont want to devote a ton of time to levelling, then re-level ... and knowing that this awesomeness is just around the (relative) corner, my enthusiasm to do more than head to the AH and unload all my "BC" items is waning. I have 4 days committed to raiding with our guild -- the other 3 I'd rather read a book or catch up on some of this sleep debt. Don't get me wrong -- I still love raiding and want to down as many bosses as possible before WotLK. But that's about all I'm in for now ...

Got my Beta key last night. Hopefully will have the download finished tomorrow. Would've been finished this morning, but my stupid firewall (ZoneAlarm) decided to muck things up. Before I went to bed I started the downloader up, it connected and started downloading stuff. Had about 10MB done when I went to bed. Got up a few hours later to find the Firewall prompting me to allow the downloader to connect. So it uh had already downloaded 24 MB before ZoneAlarm realized "Hey, there's a program accessing the internet. Maybe I should go ahead and make sure the user is okay with that".
I'll be making toons on both the PvE and PvP server, though I don't intend to level up to 80. Just play around, hammer around with stuff. Test some addons.
