First of all, I just want to say that overall all the mages here are better than a lot of the mages that are floating around.  Everyone seems to have at least a fundamental understanding of gearing and mechanics. However... <rant> Fire Mages:  Benvolo is not your pocket auto scorch refresh.  It is the bare minimum that you keep a proper rotation up as much as possible.  This includes starting boss fights with scorch to debuff, and keeping it up.  (fireball x 9, scorch x1 for no haste)  That is the MINIMUM.  There were countless times tonight that I saw fireballs flying before scorch was even stacked once, I saw fireballs fly and fly when scorch fell off on VR, and it didn't get stacked until I stacked it.  I know we all want to do the best dps we can, but if you let scorch drop, you just shot yourself in the foot.  Look at the WWS.  I think the most scorches that were thrown was like 20 or something.  OVER THE ENTIRE NIGHT!!!  I threw like 115, the next closest was like 20.  That is no good.   On fights where you have to move ( cough vr)  toss up a scorch after 7 fireballs.  Its better than letting it fall.  The other mages may be running from orbs and out of range.  Take the responsibility yourself.  We always have a lot of mages, and we can't afford to gimp each other like that.  If I see people not helping keep the scorch up, you will hear about it during the raid.  If you do it again I will make you the designated scorcher.  You will stack the scorch, cast 6 fireballs then scorch to make super sure it stays up while the rest of us nuke away.   Frost mages:  Use your defense to your advantage, keep WC up on movement fights.  Your ele is your best friend, pop it as early as you have the threat celing to do so, then when he drops out, cold snap another, unless the encounter is going to kill it before the normal cooldown is up anyway.  Frost is less stressful in raids for the most part, but stay awake.  On dps races, if you are raid specced frost ( aka no pvp frost talents) or if you have clearcasting, use your pot cooldown for a destro pot.  They are hot.   </rant> Hopefully we will always have a spriest, but when we don't, don't be a stuborn idiot like me.  Use some mana consumables instead of your dps consumables.  I ran oom on VR because I was anticipating a faster kill.  Each fight is different, cater your gear and consumables accordingly.    Short version:  1. Keep scorch stacked!!!!!!!!111    2. Play smart for each fight    3. ?    4. Profit.

Not all fire builds are scorch - are they?  *edit* Umm ... I just checked, apparently they are in our guild. :D Let me add to that that opening with a fireball wouldn't be the wisest move to begin with.  Best to let the engine warm up before you start revving it hard!

Exactly.  If you open a boss fight with a fireball... shame on you.  You either 1. Didn't stack scorch and just went to fireball 2. Waited for someone else to stack scorch for you  3. Waited too long to start dps, and the other mages already scorched up.  Too much threat too soon is yet another reason not to open with fireball.   And if you are fire specced and didn't get imp scorch, you are either not pve raid specced, or you screwed up your build.  If you are arc/fire or something like that, you may not have imp scorch, but that is beyond the point.

I'm SORRY! /weep Thank you for calling us out on this. It's not fair and it hurts the raid during boss fights. I know that for me, it started off with my scorches not being the first to hit the boss and so my addons didn't show the timer for when the debuff expires. Then as time progressed over multiple raids, I got lazy. I'm sorry for not doing my job :(  No excuses! Don't want you to get mad and sound like Quani :D   /hugs
