greetings. rumor has it 4.2 will be in the next two or three weeks, so there was a few things a i wanted to mention.
first, a friendly reminder that raider rank requirements will be adjusted according to the baseline for the new content. what that actually means is tbd, but will be decided soonish.
second, i'm curious to see if there would be any interest in turning the friday night raid into a t11 heroic mode raid. i'm 50/50 on this since with the nerfs it will also make it easier to get more people into the regular t11 content if anyone else is interested. it may also make sense to explore other nights for either of these.
third, if there is anything anyone wants to accomplish before the patch, raid-wise or whatever else, please let it be known.
if you have other questions / comments / whatever please post as well
Note that tier 11 heroic mode will not be nerfed. With that being said, tier 11 heroic mode will still give valor points in 4.2. Based on those two, I want to outline the following scenarios.
1) Normal mode tier 12 (Firelands) is reasonably easy. In the first week, we're able to down maybe 3/7 bosses. Those three bosses will drop 6 pieces of tier 12 (ilvl 378) gear. Assuming everyone is doing their seven ZA/ZG randoms, 980 (7 ZA/ZG) + 280 (3 Firelands + 1 BH) = 1260 > 1250 means we hit the valor point cap. This diminishes the value of doing tier 11 heroic -- the gear will be ilvl 372 which is less than the 378 gear and we seem to be doing fine with our 359 gear anyway (since we're 3/7). Doing a single ZA/ZG will get you 140 valor whereas bashing your head to kill one tier 11 heroic boss will only get you 70.
2) Normal mode tier 12 (Firelands) is crazy hard. In the first week, we're able to down 0/7 bosses. Now we will have a valor point deficit. This will increase the value of doing tier 11 heroic -- the gear will be ilvl 372 which is a jump over our 359 gear which doesn't seem to be cutting it (since we're 0/7). If we spend one day getting just three heroic tier 11 bosses down, we'll get six gear upgrades, hit the valor point cap, and make progress into improving our gear to take another shot at tier 12.
In terms of goals pre-patch, I think getting as many raiders into their four piece T11 as possible is the biggest bang for buck. For healers, four piece is a spirit boost that all healing classes desire. For DPS, I'm not sure if four piece T11 is actually best in slot for all DPS classes (I'm not exactly impressed by the shadow priest one). For tanks, I'm not sure if four piece T11 is best in slot either (I think all of them are a 50% duration increase for a tanking CD; since the tanking CDs are on 3 minutes, I'm not sure if this makes any real difference since the tanking CDs tend to be camped). That means that the raids need to be able to farm Cho'gall, Nefarian, and Al'Akir week in and week out -- this will cut into any heroic practice time if you can't reliably kill all three bosses.

bashing my head into a wall in an effort to accomplish something challenging > gear and vp
In other news, if I recall correctly, you won't be able to conquest point cap solely through arenas anymore in 4.2. Another possible good use of a raid night is instead to make a guild rated BG night. Speaking for myself, I don't like the pressure of arenas but am perfectly fine with being bad at PvP in a battleground.
According to the latest patch notes, the valor point cap is being reduced to 980 -- raiding is now optional! Heroic T11 and BH10 also award only 35 valor points per boss -- half of the T12 amount which is 70 per boss and one quarter of the amount from a random ZA/ZG which is 140 per instance.
I knew this would happen, I knew they'd set it up so you'd "want" to run ZA/ZG over and over and over and over. I thought this game needed some more grinding.
heh fun, ah well i try not to worry about the cap too much anyway.
also another thought on the g3 raid, early on we could probably use the raid id for the other groups to try to finish out 4 piece t11 for whoever still needs it.

Nooooo, running two 5mans over and over sounds no fun.
And I'd like to do heroic t11 at some point for achievements, but we'll see how the raiding scene looks when Firelands hits.
