FA DKP Guidelines
(United States) Modified By draven on 2/6/2008 10:28:06 AM)

ATTENTION ATTENTION ATTENTION!!! THIS WILL AFFECT YOU!

We have decided to go to a dkp (or point) based system of loots in the 25 man raiding content.  There are a few reasons we are doing this, but the most important is that it is a fair loot system that will reward raid participation.  Here is how the system works:

This is a slightly modified zero-sum dkp system (everyones points should add up to ~0).  This is a good system becuase some people will have positive points, and some will have negative points, and a new guild raider can walk in and not be hurtin, as 0 is average.  Basically every piece of loot in the 25 mans has a point value assigned to it.  We did not make these values because it has been done a thousand times before, so why reinvent the wheel?  When a piece of loot drops the person with the most dkp that expresses desire for that loot gets the item.  The cost of that item is then subtracted from the winning persons dkp, divided by 25, and each person in the raid gets that amount of points added to their dkp.  Now that the winning person has had their points subtracted they should now be at the low end of the totem pole.  This is the main way that you earn points.  For more information about dkp, or the zero-sum system see here http://wow.tentonhammer.com/index.php?module=ContentExpress&func=display&ceid=373.

Now here is the way we decided to work it:

  • Point values for items are found here http://www.ascendancewow.com/ascendance/dkp/items.aspx.
  • 3 point will be awarded for those that are ontime, in the raid, and in the zone that the raid is taking place.  This is a high amount for now, to get people moving, and will probably be modified in the future.
  • 10 bonus points will be awarded to those that are raiding on a 1st time boss kill.
  • Once an item has been deemed not needed by a main spec, it can be /rolled for offspec for free.
  • If you are asked to bring an alt to round out the raid, you can choose if your points go to your main or alt.  If you chose to bring an alt without being asked, your points stay on that character.

Benvolo and myself are working with dkp software and in game addons to see which one is going to work best for our group.  Until then we will be using an excel spreadsheet which Benvolo, Chuunks, and myself will maintain.  I am going to ask Akuma to do the google spreadsheet thing for us so that all can view it.  You are encouraged to keep track of your points, and we will do the same.  It's easy.

Here is what this weeks points would look like at this point in time:

Name Item Received Item Cost Bonus for Raid Points Gained + Bonus - Cost = Total for Weeks Raid Overall Total
Svene    Serpentshrine Shuriken 38 points 3 8.88 + 3 - 38 = -26.12 0 + -28.12 = -26.12
Chuunks MAllet of the Tides 115 points 3 8.88 + 3 - 115 = -103.12 0 + -105.12 = -103.12
Mahatma The Seal of Danzalar 69 points 3 8.88 + 3 - 69 = -57.12 0 + -59.12 = -57.12
Phrikk NA NA 3 8.88 + 3 = 11.88 0 + 11.88 = 11.88
Jazzmynn NA NA 8.88 + 3 = 11.88 0 + 11.88 = 11.88
Onestar NA NA 8.88 + 3 = 11.88 0 + 11.88 = 11.88
Dudepal NA NA 3 8.88 + 3 = 11.88 0 + 11.88 = 11.88
Bravsirrobin NA NA 8.88 + 3 = 11.88 0 + 11.88 = 11.88
Everyone Else NA NA 8.88 + 3 = 11.88 0 + 11.88 = 11.88

And it goes on like that for all 25 of us.  I am positive that there is an easier way to do this on paper, or an easier way to make it look better lol.  Like I said we will be searching for the right program to use, and everyone will have access to it when we find it.

If there are any questions please feel free to message or ingame email myself or any other officer.

THE ITEMS THAT WERE AWARDED ON 01/22/07 WILL NOT COST AS THEY WERE HONESTLY NOT THAT GREAT AND EVERYONE DID NOT KNOW WHAT WE WERE DOING.  AS OF 02/05/08 THIS DKP SYSTEM WILL GO INTO EFFECT WITH EVERYONE STARTING WITH 0 POINTS.

We had planned on using this system this week, but it appears that not everyone checks the forums.  Here is what this weeks points would look like at this point in time:

It should actually say that this is what it looks like right now.  I am going to put it in a google spreadsheet for now and will post the link here.

Personally (though I defer to the person who actually does the work) I would like to see the spreadsheet show the historical data, and still maintain a table here for the "current" points.

Depending on how much access you have to your website:

Might make things easier than a spreadsheet.  Also less reliant on a person getting the math right.

A-ha! I knew I was going to need Algebra later in life!

Seriously though, I'm looking forward to trying this system out. It seems pretty fair.

Like I said, we are playing with different systems to report and keep track of stuff and yall will be part of whatever we use.  There is all sorts of systems, some are free, some cost.  Just gotta find the right one.

Cool, glad to see this is at the top of the generals.  If anyone has any questions about this system, feel free to contact me in game.  I will be keeping track of points along with a few others.  Also, if you were one of the folks not really in favor of this system, I really think that it is the only totally fair and objective system for loot in the content that we are working on now.  It may take a little getting used to, but going to DKP is not going to make the way we interact in raids any different.  It will still be a fun time like it always was.  Now we all just get points too.

Re: FA DKP Guidelines

Now I may be new to the guild and I know absolutely nothing about DKP systems, but it seems to me that maybe a bidding type system might be more fair.  So you come into the guild with a starting amount of points lets use 100 for example.  Each item dropped has a certain starting "bid".  Then anyone interested in it speaks up and the bidding begins.  The bid will incriment by say 10 points to speed up the process.  You cannot exceed how many points you have so the longer you raid without taking anything the more DKP you can stack up and that is your own decision.  If noone needs the objects for their main spec raiding then the interested members can /roll for it as an off spec item at 1/2 or 1/3 the intial starting bid price.

Like I said earlier i know nothing about the DKP system and very little about raiding as my playtime and family situation limit my raiding, but any feedback as to the problems with my ideas or any other opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Lysta

Lysta, since our last gruul clear was so terrible in terms of dkp, we are going to be trying this next time in there and see how it goes.  We are going to set a minimum bid and have people bid on the gear since its not really worth anywhere near as much as the sheet values it.  Lets see how it works out for everyone.

I'm just curious, but do we get DKP for wipefests when we're learning new content, like last week's Karathress attempts?

IMHO -- Yes, but it's not going to be an exciting amount ...

Obviously - the guild did not kill a boss, so we wouldn't get any "boss kill/first kill/loot bonus" for the raid.  But we were on-time and there were trash drops if I'm not mistaken?

I just checked the DKP spreadsheet and dont see any points for Thursday, but this is what I would "imagine" to be right and just.  I think it's just a matter of maintenance.

The BIG bump is when we kill both he and Hydross tonight, right? :D

Re: FA DKP Guidelines

Can we update our DKP FAQ with our new bid system when it's been worked out?  I think we were all a bit confused Tuesday.  For the resil/armor/caster ring I was thinking I would have another round to bid after the first (not a big deal to lose), but I think others also have questions on how this now goes . Is it say if you want it first, then right to bid, no 1/3 offspec anymore?
